The clothes from Pyer Moss's latest collection came with clear messaging. In a man’s all-white ensemble, a cumberbund read: “See us now,” and the FUBU (For Us By Us) emblem and logo featured in multiple looks.

To drive home his celebration of African-American culture, he even threw a FUBU collaboration in the mix. Jean-Raymond stuck to a primary color palette of red, yellow and blue, including an abstract geometric print, while artwork by Derrick Adams provided graphics that represented facets of black life and individuals.

Jean-Raymond is fast becoming a medium for social commentary and is committed to reclaiming the legacy of the black and brown designers who came before him. The designer already has collaborations with Levi’s and Reebok, and this season he teamed up 1990s streetwear label FUBU (For Us By Us) on a capsule collection.

Designer Kerby Jean-Raymond brought showgoers to Weeksville in honor of his brand's fifth anniversary, an ongoing partnership with Reebok, new artwork by Derrick Adams, a Fubu collaboration and, above all, the African-American experience. Following up to Jean-Raymond's fall collaboration with Cross Colours, the designer revealed new apparel for Fubu — the "For Us By Us" clothing line launched by Daymond John in 1992 — including a cropped yellow vest and a black gown with a logo emblem. In a time where streetwear has infiltrated the luxury space and '90s-era clothing continues to take over mainstream retailers, it's a nod to one of the brands that cultivated the once-niche trend that should not be ignored.

The FUBU logo with its “for us, by us” story of entrepreneurship and self-definition appears on several garments. Some models wore shoes by Aurora James, who through her Brother Vellies collection has made an effort to highlight the skills and aesthetics of cobblers in countries such as Kenya and Ethiopia. And the artwork that brings such energy to Jean-Raymond’s pajama tops and toga-like dresses was from the Brooklyn-based artist Derrick Adams , whose work explores the way race and class inform our ideas of who and how people engage in leisure time.
